British actor James D'Arcy has been cast in Madonna's second directorial effort, "W.E."
The biopic tells about the affair between Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson that led to the British monarch abdicating the throne to marry his lover.
D'Arcy will star as Kind Edward VIII opposite Andrea Riseborough ("The Long Walk to Finchley") as Wallis Simpson.
Abbie Cornish and Oscar Isaac will play a contemporary couple in the present day.
Vera Farmiga and Ewan McGregor had been previously attached to the film.
According to Variety, Madonna wrote the script with Alek Keshishian, who directed her in "Truth or Dare."
Former Miramax executive Colin Vaines will produce the film, with shooting set to begin in Blighty on July 4.
Madonna’s directorial debut was on the 2008 film "Filth and Wisdom."
D'Arcy has appeared in "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World," "Flashbacks of a Fool" and "An American Haunting." He will be seen in the upcoming "Age of Heroes."
