Andy Garcia, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Peter O'Toole, Eva Longoria Parker and Bruce Greenwood have joined the cast of the Mexican historical epic "Cristiada" for NewLand Films.
Oscar Isaac, Santiago Cabrera, Ruben Blades and Nestor Cabonell have also been cast.
According to Variety, shooting began Monday with former visual effects supervisor Dean Wright directing. Wright and Michael James Love wrote the screenplay.
Pablo Jose Barroso is producing.
The film is being promoted as the largest Mexican-produced film and will shoot for 12 weeks in various locations around the country including Mexico City, Durango, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi and Puebla.
The film focuses on the 1926-29 Cristeros war, started by a rebellion over the Mexican government's 1917 attempt to remove the Catholic Church’s influence and secularize the country.
