James Franco going 'Apes'

James Franco will star in 20th Century Fox's "Planet of the Apes" prequel "Rise of the Apes."
According to Variety, Rupert Wyatt is directing from a script by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa. Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce along with Silver and Jaffa.
The film is set in present day San Francisco and deals with the aftermath of man's experiments with genetic engineering that lead to intelligence in apes and a war for supremacy. Franco will play a scientist who becomes a crucial figure in the war.
Shooting begins July 5 and will be released June 24, 2011.
Franco stars in the upcoming Danny Boyle film "127 Hours" for Fox Searchlight and is attached to the title role in the comedy "Ricky Stanicky" for Summit.
