Emma Watson and Logan Lerman are in negotiations to star in the indie drama, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," based on the controversial novel of the same name.
John Malkovich will produce through his Mr. Mudd production company along with Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith.
According to Variety, "Perks of Being a Wallflower" author Stephen Chbosky will direct from his own script.
The book is narrated by a shy and unpopular teenager who writes a series of letters to an anonymous person and details the painful times of adolescence, including drug use and sexuality.
This will be Watson’s first feature role outside of her work as Hermione Granger in the eight "Harry Potter" films. The final film, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II," will open in July 2011.
Lerman, who starred in "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief," has been cast as d'Artagnan in Paul W.S. Anderson's 3D version of "Three Musketeers."
