Director Cameron Crowe will direct "We Bought a Zoo" for 20th Century Fox.
According to Variety, Fox has scheduled the film for a Dec. 23, 2011 release.
Crowe will do a rewrite of the "Zoo" script originally written by Aline Brosh McKenna adapted from Benjamin Mee's memoir. McKenna also adapted "The Devil Wears Prada" from Lauren Weisberger’s novel.
Fox will start casting when Crowe finishes his draft.
Julie Zorn is producing.
The film centers on a widowed father who buys a broken-down zoo and, with the help of his children and a loyal staff, works to get the zoo reopened.
Crowe’s last film was 2005’s "Elizabethtown."
