R&B singer Mary J. Blige has signed on to play Nina Simone in a biopic of the legendary singer to be titled "Nina."
The film will focus on Simone's relationship with her assistant Clifton Henderson, played by David Oyelowo ("The Last King of Scotland").
Cynthia Mort, who wrote the script for "The Brave One," is writing and directing the film.
According to Variety, the $10 million film will begin shooting in France in September.
Simone, nicknamed "the High Priestess of Soul," was a singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger and civil rights activist.
Mort was a writer-producer on TV's "Rosanne" and "Will & Grace" and a creator of "Tell Me You Love Me."
