Spielberg to direct 'War Horse'

Steven Spielberg will direct the World War I epic "War Horse."
According to Variety, Disney and DreamWorks have announced a release date of Aug. 10, 2011.
"War Horse" is based on Michael Morpurgo's 1982 novel of the same name, as well as a stage adaptation. Spielberg is producing with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Revel Guest. Lee Hall and Richard Curtis will adapt the script.
The plot focuses on the unique friendship between a boy and a horse whose fates intertwine over the course of WWI.
Spielberg has already delved into World War II in a number of projects, including "Saving Private Ryan," which he directed and won a Best Director Oscar for in 1998.
He executive produced the World War II-themed HBO miniseries "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific."
