Baumbach, Stiller like 'Penguins'
By Adnan Tezer Apr 3, 2010, 5:21 GMT
Noah Baumbach is in talks to direct Ben Stiller in 20th Century Fox's "Mr. Popper's Penguins," based on the 1938 children's book.
"Mr. Popper" tells the story of a house painter whose fantasies of exploring the Arctic lead him to write letters to real explorers. As a result, he unexpectedly comes into possession of twelve Adelie penguins. In order to feed all of his penguins, he is forced to create Popper's Performing Penguins, a stage act that goes on tour.
The book was written by Richard and Florence Atwater and won the 1939 Newbery Award.
According to Variety, John Davis is producing through his Davis Entertainment production company.
Sean Anders and John Morris will write the screenplay.
"Mr. Popper" would be Stiller and Baumbach’s second collaboration. Focus Features' "Greenberg," which Baumbach directed and Stiller stars in, is currently in theaters.
