Chris Evans will play Captain America for Marvel Entertainment.
Evans will star in three "Captain America" movies, starting with "The First Avenger: Captain America," which Marvel will release on July 22, 2011. Paramount will distribute.
Joe Johnston, who directed "The Wolfman" for Universal, will direct from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
According to Variety, Hugo Weaving will play the villain, Red Skull.
Evans would also reprise the role in "The Avengers," which will unite Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton) in the same film. That film will be released on May 4, 2012.

The character of Captain America, created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, was the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a sickly young man who was enhanced to human perfection by an experimental serum in order to aid the United States in World War II during the 1940s. Captain America wears a costume that resembles an American flag, and is armed with an indestructible shield that can be thrown as a weapon.
Evans will next be seen in Warner Bros.' adaptation of DC Comics' "The Losers" in April, and has signed on to co-star opposite Anna Faris in New Regency's comedy "What's Your Number."
