De Niro to take on Vince Lombardi
By Adnan Tezer Mar 10, 2010, 19:44 GMT
Robert De Niro is attached to play legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi in "Lombardi" for ESPN Films, Andell Entertainment and the NFL.
Eric Roth ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") will write the script, which will focus on the coach's career during the years he transformed the Green Bay Packers from the worst team in the NFL into five-time champions.
The script will be based on Lombardi’s life story rights, which were acquired through his estate and Vincent Lombardi Jr., as well as the book "Instant Replay" written by former Packer Jerry Kramer and Dick Schaap.
De Niro will produce alongside his Tribeca Productions partner Jane Rosenthal and Chris Olsen.
According to Variety, the producers are hoping to release the film on the weekend between the AFC and NFC Conference Championships and the Super Bowl in 2012.
