'Alice' floats away with box office

Disney's 3D "Alice in Wonderland" dominated the box office over the weekend as it opened to $116.3 million.
According to Variety, the Tim Burton-Johnny Depp film became the highest-grossing first-quarter opener and scored the all-time highest three-day, non-holiday opening for a non-sequel film in the U.S.
Overture's Ethan Hawke-Richard Gere cop film "Brooklyn's Finest" opened at No.2 with $13.5 million.
Paramount's Martin Scorsese thriller "Shutter Island" came in at No.3 with $13.3 million in its third weekend for a cumulative of $95.8 million.
Warner's buddy comedy "Cop Out" came in at No.4 with $9.1 million in its second weekend for a cumulative of $32.4 million.
Fox’s "Avatar" rounded out the top five with $7.7 million for a domestic cumulative of $720.2 million.
