Angelina Jolie and Darren Aronofsky are in talks to bring Ron Rash's 2008 novel "Serena: A Novel" to the big screen.
This would be a starring role for Jolie, with Aronofsky directing.
Chris Kyle, who wrote the Kathryn Bigelow movies "The Weight of Water" and "K-19: The Widowmaker," wrote the screenplay.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nick Wechsler ("The Road," "The Time Traveler's Wife," "Reservation Road") is producing.
The story follows a man named George Pemberton and his new bride, Serena, as they create a timber empire in 1929 North Carolina. Much like Lady Macbeth, Serena pushes her husband to commit ruthless acts in order to maintain their wealth. When she learns she can’t have a child, Serena sets out to murder the son her husband fathered illegitimately.
Aronofsky just wrapped "Black Swan" and Jolie is currently shooting "The Tourist" with Johnny Depp.
