'Shutter' wins the box office

Paramount’s new Martin Scorsese thriller "Shutter Island" led the box office competition this weekend as it opened with $40.2 million.
According to Variety, it was the biggest opening for both Scorsese and star Leonardo DiCaprio.
Warner Bros.' "Valentine's Day" fell to the No. 2 spot in its second weekend, earning $17.2 million. The film has a domestic cumulative of $87.4 million.
20th Century Fox's "Avatar" came in at the No.3 spot, grossing $16.1 million for a domestic cumulative of $687.8 million.
20th Century Fox's "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" finished No.4 with $15.3 million for a cumulative of $58.5 million.
Universal's "The Wolfman" finished No.5 with $9.8 million for a cumulative of $50.3 million.
