Universal has acquired domestic rights to the Tom Hanks-Julia Roberts film "Larry Crowne," with Hanks set to direct.
"Crowne" will be produced by Hanks and producing partner Gary Goetzman through their Playtone production company.
According to Variety, production will begin in April in Los Angeles.
The film centers on a middle-aged man who's forced to find a new career. Hanks wrote the screenplay with Nia Vardalos.
The working relationship between Hanks and Vardalos goes back to her 2002 hit "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," which Hanks and Gary Goetzman also produced through Playtone.
Hanks and Roberts co-starred in 2007's "Charlie Wilson's War" for Universal. Hanks last directed "That Thing You Do" in 1996.
