'Dear John' takes out 'Avatar'

Sony/Screen Gems’ "Dear John" won the domestic box office over Super Bowl weekend, supplanting 20th Century Fox's "Avatar."
Based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, "Dear John" opened to $32.4 million.
"Avatar" came in at the No. 2 spot with $23.6 million in its eighth weekend.
According to Variety, its domestic gross stands at $630 million combined with an international cumulative of $1.58 billion for a worldwide take of $2.21 billion.
Lionsgate's John Travolta film "From Paris With Love" opened at No.3 with $8.1 million.
Warner Bros.' "Edge of Darkness" came in at the No. 4 spot with $7 million for a domestic cumulative of $29 million.
Fox's "Tooth Fairy" finished No.5 for the weekend, grossing $6.5 million for a $34.3 million domestic cumulative.
