Paramount comes up with 'Big Short'

Paramount Pictures has bought the rights to author Michael Lewis' upcoming book "The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine."

The book, which will be released by W.W. Norton on March 15, chronicles the recent crash of the American economy.

According to Variety, Brad Pitt is producing through his Paramount-based Plan B production company.

There is no cast, writer or director attached yet to the project.

Lewis' previous book, "The Blind Side," was one of the surprise film hits of 2009 taking in over $200 million domestically and garnering two Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Actress (Sandra Bullock).
