Italian director Gabriele Muccino is in advanced talks with Morgan Creek to direct Keanu Reeves in the sci-fi romance "Passengers."
Muccino, who directed the Will Smith films "The Pursuit of Happyness" and "Seven Pounds," hopes to start shooting "Passengers" this summer.
According to Variety, Morgan Creek’s James G. Robinson will produce.
Jon Spaihts, who also wrote Ridley Scott's untitled "Alien" prequel film, wrote the script.
"Passengers" takes place in the future on a spacecraft making a centuries-long journey to a new planet. After a computer malfunction, one man aboard the ship (Reeves) awakens from cryogenic sleep 90 years before anyone else. He then awakens a beautiful woman.
