D.J. Caruso to take on James Frey book
By Adnan Tezer Jan 21, 2010, 2:23 GMT
D.J. Caruso will direct “I Am Number Four,” DreamWorks’ adaptation of the upcoming science fiction book by James Frey and Jobie Hughes.
“Four” revolves around a group of nine aliens who barely escape their home planet before it is destroyed by a rival species. Hiding out on Earth as a human high school student, the title character discovers he is still being pursued by his planet's destroyers.
HarperCollins Children’s Books is publishing the book, which would be the first in a series of six, this fall.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks picked up the film rights last June, with Michael Bay attached to produce and possibly direct. Bay remains on board as a producer.
“Smallville” creators Al Gough and Miles Millar wrote the screenplay.
Caruso has worked with DreamWorks before, having directed “Disturbia” and “Eagle Eye.”
