Coens' 'True Grit' remake to open Christmas Day
By Adnan Tezer Jan 21, 2010, 2:20 GMT
Paramount Pictures will release Joel and Ethan Coen's remake of the 1969 Western "True Grit" on Christmas Day.
The film stars Jeff Bridges as U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, the character that won John Wayne the Oscar for Best Actor. Matt Damon will play the “La Boeuf” lawman character that teams with Cogburn in his search for the murderer of a young girl’s father. Glen Campbell played the part in the original. Josh Brolin has also been cast.
According to Variety, Paramount has also taken the remake of "Footloose," which was to open June 18, off the release calendar.
The film hit a severe roadblock when Kenny Ortega dropped out as director in October of last year, reportedly over creative differences.
