Maguire, Raimi and Dunst out of 'Spider-Man'
By Adnan Tezer Jan 12, 2010, 2:39 GMT
Stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and director Sam Raimi, who were set to reunite for "Spider Man 4," will no longer be involved in the franchise.
Columbia announced that it will move forward with a "Spider Man" reboot that will focus on a high school-aged Peter Parker. That film will open in summer 2012.
Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin are producing.
Last week, Columbia confirmed that "Spider Man 4," which was scheduled to begin shooting in February and be released in 2011, was on hold indefinitely due to script problems.
The studio already has a James Vanderbilt-written script about a teenage Peter Parker ready to shoot. The new version will cost far less than a "Spider Man 4" would’ve given that there will be no high priced talent in front of or behind the camera.
According to Variety, the studio plans to hire a new director and star in the coming weeks.
