James Cameron buys 'Hiroshima' book
By Adnan Tezer Jan 9, 2010, 2:46 GMT
"Avatar" director James Cameron has optioned Charles Pellegrino's upcoming nonfiction book "The Last Train From Hiroshima: The Survivors Look Back" with an eye on possibly directing the film version.
While in Japan in late December promoting "Avatar," Cameron visited Tsutomu Yamaguchi, one of the last survivors of the U.S. bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during WWII. Yamaguchi died this past Monday at the age of 93.
Pellegrino's book takes place over two days and blends together eyewitness accounts of the Japanese civilians and American pilots who experienced the bombings firsthand.
According to the book, 30 people are known to have fled Hiroshima for Nagasaki, where they arrived just in time to survive the second bomb. Yamaguchi was the sole survivor who experienced the bombings at ground zero both times.
According to Variety, the project is not set up at 20’th Century Fox or Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment.
