Sony believes in 'Mother and Child'

Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to Rodrigo Garcia's "Mother and Child."

The film stars Annette Bening, Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson and opened at the Toronto festival in September. Sony Classics will release the film in 2010.

Garcia wrote and directed the film, which is centered around three women and the choices they've made concerning children. Garcia previously directed "Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her" and "Nine Lives."

According to Variety, Garcia's producing partner, Julie Lynn, produced along with Lisa Maria Falcone. Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu was an executive producer.
