Paramount’s mini-budgeted horror film "Paranormal Activity" beat out Lionsgate’s "Saw VI" to win the box office weekend at $22 million from 1,945 theaters. The film has a cumulative of $62.5 million to date. According to Variety, the film’s budget is somewhere between $11,000 and $15,000 and is already one of the most profitable films ever. "Saw VI "opened to an estimated $14.8 million from 3,036 theaters to place second for the weekend. Warner Bros.’ "Where the Wild Things Are" came in No. 3 with $14.4 million in its second weekend for a cumulative of $54 million. Overture Films’ "Law Abiding Citizen" came in fourth with $12.7 million in its second weekend for a cumulative of $40.3 million. Universal’s "Couples Retreat" finished fifth with $11.1 million in its third weekend for a cumulative of $78.2 million.
