Neve Campbell, who had stated she would not be returning for another “Scream”, has now signed on to star in the upcoming fourth installment of the popular horror franchise.According to The Moving Picture, “Scream 4” is said to be the first of a new trilogy, and Dimension Films is talking to Wes Craven to direct. In addition to Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette are also set to reprise their roles.Released in 1996, the first “Scream” told the story of the fictional town Woodsboro, CA being terrorized by a masked killer who enjoys tormenting his victims with phone calls and movie references. The killer’s main target is Sidney Prescott (Campbell), a teenage girl whose mother was murdered one year earlier. Sequels followed in 1997 and 2000. The franchise is looked at as revitalizing the slasher film genre in the mid-1990s. The first two “Scream” films grossed more than $100 million each, while “Scream 3” grossed $89 million in the U.S.“Scream 4” is scheduled to begin production in April of next year.
