Warner Bros. has already begun talks to hire the screenwriting team of Kieran and Michele Mulroney to write a sequel to "Sherlock Holmes."The studio is aiming to launch a franchise with "Sherlock," which will open on Christmas. Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams star in the film directed by Guy Ritchie; Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey, Dan Lin and Joel Silver produced. The basis for the film is both the Arthur Conan Doyle classic stories and the comic book "Sherlock Holmes." Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham, Simon Kinberg and Wigram worked on the screenplay. The Mulroneys wrote "Justice League" for Warner Bros. along with writing and directing the independent drama-comedy "Paper Man," starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Daniels.According to The Hollywood Reporter, it's become increasingly common for a studio to begin developing sequels ahead of a movie's release, enabling the sequel to get into production faster than it normally would, and at a comparatively low cost. A good example would be “The Hangover.” Warners began pushing a sequel for "The Hangover," as the movie's prerelease buzz began to grow, though did not close deals until after the movie had become one of the summer’s biggest hits.
