Alfredson to direct Kidman in 'Danish'

"Let the Right One In" director Tomas Alfredson has signed on to direct Nicole Kidman in the drama "The Danish Girl."

The script is written by Lucinda Coxon, based on David Ebershoff's novel about Danish painter Einar Wegener (Kidman), who in 1931 became the first person to go through a sex-change operation to become a woman.

Charlize Theron, who had been attached to play Wegener's wife, Gerda, has left the production.

According to Variety, the film will be produced by Kidman and Per Saari, head of Kidman's Fox-based Blossom Films production company, along with Anne Harrison, Gail Mutrix and Linda Reisman.
