Morgan to be part of 'Red Dawn'

Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Watchmen") is close to joining the cast of "Red Dawn," the MGM/UA remake of the 1984 film.

"Red Dawn" follows a group of teenagers who fight back against the Chinese and Russian soldiers that have invaded their home town. Morgan will play the leader of the U.S. Special Forces team who discovers the teens' stronghold while behind enemy lines.

According to Variety, Dan Bradley is directing "Red Dawn" from a screenplay by Carl Ellsworth & Jeremy Passmore.

Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson from Contrafilm are producing with Vince Newman and Kevin Halloran executive producing.

The film is currently shooting in Michigan and will open on September 24, 2010.
