Stephen Frears ready for 'Tamara'

British director Stephen Frears has officially signed on to direct a live-action feature adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel "Tamara Drewe" written by Posy Simmonds.

According to Variety, British actress Gemma Arterton will play Drewe, a sexy flirt who returns to her small country village and brings out strong passions among the locals.

Rounding out the cast are Dominic Cooper, Roger Allam, Luke Evans, Bill Camp and Tamsin Greig.

Simmonds' novel is a modern adaptation of Thomas Hardy's classic novel "Far From the Madding Crowd."

Moira Buffini has written the script.

Shooting begins September 21 in the U.K. and at Pinewood Studios.
