Paul W.S. Anderson has ‘Afterlife’

Paul W.S. Anderson is returning to the director’s chair for “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” the fourth installment in the franchise based on the popular video game series. Anderson has written the three previous films and directed the first.

According to The Moving Picture, Milla Jovovich is set to return as Alice and Anderson plans on shooting Afterlife in 3-D, using the same camera system James Cameron used for “Avatar.”

Anderson, who is also writing the film, revealed that he plans for ‘Afterlife’ to be the beginning of a new trilogy. Plot details are still being kept under wraps.

The first Evil film was released in 2002 and followed an amnesiac heroine (Jovovich), and a band of commandos, as they attempt to escape a secret underground facility that is overrun with zombies. The subsequent films, “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” and “Resident Evil: Extinction” brought the zombie mayhem to the surface.

Filming is slated to start later this year for a September 17, 2010 release date.
