Ryan Reynolds has landed the coveted role of "Green Lantern," getting the starring role in Warner Bros.' live-action film based on the DC Comics hero.According to Variety, Martin Campbell will direct. Production is expected to begin in January.Greg Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Donald DeLine will produce with Berlanti.

Green Lantern first hit comics in 1940 in the pages of All-American Comics #16. The first Green Lantern was Alan Scott.
Since Scott, Green Lantern has become on of DC Comics' most important characters and the power ring has been passed to several characters - including Hal Jordan (who died and was brought back to life), John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner.
The Green Latern Corps protect the galaxy against a wide variety of threats - such as former Lantern Sinestro.
