‘Unstoppable’ having financial issues

Fox is having concerns over the budget for Tony Scott’s upcoming action-thriller “Unstoppable.”

According to The Moving Picture, the project is in the early stages of pre-production, but the studio has concerns about the cost of physical production on the action-heavy film, which could lead to the project being put on hold. The studio is also dealing with high star salaries of Scott, Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. Neither the main acting deals nor Scott’s directing deal are closed.

Fox is also questioning the budget since Scott and Washington’s latest collaboration, “The Taking of Pelham 123,” has underperformed at the box-office. On a reported production budget of $100 million, the action remake, which also stars John Travolta, has only brought in $53 million in its first three weeks of release.

“Unstoppable,” which is loosely inspired by real events, centers on an experienced train engineer (Washington) and a newly instated conductor (Pine) who end up in a race against time to stop an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train carrying enough combustible liquids and poisonous gas to wipe out a nearby city. Mark Bomback, who also wrote “Live Free or Die Hard,“ wrote the script.
