Pearce to join Holmes in the ‘Dark’

Guy Pearce is in final negotiations to star along side Katie Holmes in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”, Miramax’s upcoming supernatural thriller being directed by Guillermo del Toro protege Troy Nixey. Child actress Bailee Madison (“Bridge to Terabithia”) is also set to star.

“Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” is based on a 1973 ABC TV movie about a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend and discovers they are sharing the house with devilish creatures. Del Toro and Matthew Robbins (Mimic) wrote the script.

According to The Moving Picture, Madison will play the girl, who discovers the creatures and is fascinated by them until they prove dangerous. Pearce will play the father, an author frustrated by his daughter’s tales of monsters, not believing her even when his girlfriend (Holmes) backs her.

Nixey, a comic book artist, is making his feature directing debut. Del Toro, who is also producing, took a shine to Nixey’s short film “Latchkey’s Lament”, which captured the tone Del Toro wanted for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.

The movie is set to begin production next month in Melbourne, Australia.
