Overture Films is developing a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Hamlet" to star Emile Hirsch.
"Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke is set to direct, with Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen producing.
Hirsch previously worked with Jinks and Cohen on "Milk" and with Hardwicke on "Lords of Dogtown."
According to Variety, Ron Nyswaner ("Philadelphia," "The Painted Veil") is adapting the classical Shakespeare story into a tale set in modern day America.
There have been several screen versions of "Hamlet", including Laurence Olivier's 1948 version, which won the best picture Oscar as well as best actor for Olivier.
Other "Hamlet" films include the 1969 version directed by Tony Richardson and starring Nicol Williamson, Franco Zeffirelli's 1990 film starring Mel Gibson and Glenn Close, Kenneth Branagh's 1996 version with himself as Hamlet and Michael Almereyda's 2000 version which contemporized the story and saw Ethan Hawke portraying Hamlet as a film student.
