Katie Holmes set for 'Dark' days

"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," a thriller for Miramax Films that was written by Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins will star Katie Homes.According to Variety, Mark Johnson will handle producing duties alongside Del Toro with directing duties going to Troy Nixey. This will be Nixey’s first directed feature film. Del Toro was drawn to Nixey’s short film “Latchkey’s Lament” which had the tone that Del Toro had wanted for "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark."The film is based on a 1973 ABC made-for-TV film about a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend only to discover that the house is infested with demonic creatures.Filming will take place this summer in Melbourne.

Holmes just finished work on "The Extra Man," directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini.

Del Toro is also prepping for next year’s shoot of "The Hobbit," which he's writing with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
