Dark Horse’s “Umbrella Academy” headed to the big screen

The hit Dark Horse comic “The Umbrella Academy” is headed to the big screen as part of a three year production deal through Universal and the comic publisher.
The comic was brought to life by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way and the big screen adaption will be written by Mark Bomback (Race to Witch Mountain). The film will be produced by Dark Horse's Mike Richardson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The comic follows a group of former superheroes who come back together following the death of Sir Reginald Hargreeves - their wealthy adoptive father. Hargreeves was actually an alien who trained his adopted children to be heroes and save the world.
The comic was originally released as a six-issue miniseries in 2007, and went on to pick up an Eisner Award. Dark Horse is currently publishing a second series on the group.
Bomback is no stranger to the comic book world. His writing credits include Warner Bros.’ adaptation of “Constantine” – which was based on the hit DC Comic Hellblazer. He also helped return John McClane to the big screen with “Live Free or Die Hard.”
