Mandalay Pictures has picked up movie rights to Japanese manga series 'Full Metal Panic.'
According to The Hollywood Reporter Zac Efron's name has been mentioned in connection with the film, with the actor reportedly interested in building up his action portfolio.
The serialised novel was created by writer Shoji Gatoh and illustrator Shiki Douji; this in turn was animated for TV.
The story follows the exploits of teenage counter-terrorist mercenary
commando Sousuke Sagara who has to protect a high school girl (Kaname Chidori) with strange abilities.
The series contrasts his serious work with the mercenary groups with more light-hearted episodes at high school where his lack of social skills are apparent.
