Zac Efron is in talks to star in an adaptation of Ben Sherwood's novel 'The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud.'
Variety reports Burr Steers will direct from a script by Craig Pearce that Steers has been honing.
The book is set in a New England fishing village and follows the life of a young man, Charlie St. Cloud, who is a caretaker at an ancient cemetery. Years before Charlie survived a car crash that killed his younger brother. However, the bond between them is so strong he can still see, talk and interact with his deceased sibling. His life is thrown into turmoil when Tess Carroll, a woman training for a solo sailing trip around the world, comes into his life after a storm blows her boat into the harbour.
Charlie and Tess discover they have an unusual connection and this leads to a race against time and choices between life and death.
Production on the movie is set to start in July.
