Stephen Gaghan has been hired to write the big screen adaptation of Jon Stock’s "Dead Spy Running" with McG attached to direct for Warner Bros.
Stephen Gaghan and McG to launch a new spy franchise for Warner Bros. Cover art to Jon Stock’s "Dead Spy Running."
Warner Bros. is hoping the film will be the first in a trilogy that will redefine the espionage genre with its origin story of a new spy. The movie will be a mixture of the grit and realism of the “Bourne” films with the wit of John Le Carre's oeuvre, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Stock’s novel will hit store shelves in June and starts with the main character in the London Marathon. It is not a normal race since one of the runners is strapped with explosives – which leads to a global adventure to clear the man’s father.
McG is attached to direct the first film in the franchise and will handle producing chores with Jeanne Allgood. Ollie Madden is overseeing the film’s development.
Gaghan picked up an Oscar for his work on "Traffic," and is also writing the screen adaptation of the nonfiction novel "Blink." He is also scheduled to direct the film for Universal and Appian Way.
