Indie studio Werc Werk Works to produce ‘Howl’ with James Franco

Indie studio Werc Werk Works has announced plans to produce and finance “Howl” with James Franco attached to star and shooting scheduled to start March 16th in New York City.Variety reports “Howl” will follow the obscenity trial over Allen Ginsberg's poem, and will include an animated retelling of the poem.The film will be directed by Jeffrey Friedman (of Telling Pictures) and Rob Epstein who will also serve as producers with Elizabeth Redleaf and Christine Walker. Gus Van Sant will serve as executive producer.Friedman and Epstein also wrote the screenplay for the film.Werc Werk Works was launched in August and “Howl” will be the third project for the new studio. The company is currently producing and financing Todd Solondz's “Forgiveness” (a sequel to his "Happiness"), and is in production on Bela Tarr's "The Turin Horse."
