Ang Lee could be taking over the directing chores for "Life of Pi." © Insidefoto / PR PhotosVariety reports Fox 2000's Elizabeth Gabler picked up the screen rights to the book and Gil Netter is attached to produce the film.The story follows a youth who is the only survivor of a sunken freighter and finds himself on a lifeboat with a hyena, a hurt zebra, an orangutan and a Bengal tiger who happens to be hungry.Martel's novel won the Man Booker Prize and became a global hit. The screen adaptation has passed through several hands – including writer Dean Georgaris and M. Night Shyamalan. Lee is expected to supervise a new adaptation, but Fox 2000 has yet to hire a new writerLee ("Lust, Caution" and "Brokeback Mountain") just finished directing duties on “Taking Woodstock” – which was based on Tom Monte’s book. The film is expected to arrive in theaters in August from Focus Features.
