Sony delays ‘2012’

Sony has delayed the release of Roland Emmerich's upcoming thriller "2012." The film has shifted from a July 10th release to a Nov. 13th release – which is the same date Sony used for the two recent James Bond films.

Variety reports the studio has blamed a busy summer slate as the reason for pushing back the film. Sony’s summer sees the release of "Angels and Demons" (May 15), and "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" (June 12).The studio also has international distribution rights to "Terminator: Salvation" – which arrives day-and-date on May 22nd with Warners Bros. handling domestic distribution.The new release date puts “2012” in competition with Warner Bros.' "Sherlock Holmes," and 20th Century Fox’s "Tooth Fairy." The film will also have competition from Nov. 20th’s release of “New Moon” (Summit’s follow-up to “Twilight”) and Sony’s family flick “Planet 51.”
