Life Goes On is a high octane cautionary tale about the universal themes of identity, integrity and chasing the dream. A 20-something rites of passage set in post industrial cosmopolitan Britain, it’s a fast moving modern indie with the comedy of Swimming With Sharks and Jerry Maguire, mixed with the drama of Closer and Sideways.
28 year-old idealist James, whose entire raison d’etre is to be a writer, is sapped and demoralised from constant struggle and takes a job in a publishing house to alleviate his poverty and save his relationship. Optimistically sensing an alternative route to finally getting his own work published, James instead becomes immersed in an alternately comic and brutal battle for his honour and dignity, going through corporate hell and personal warfare to finally discover his soul and the meaning of life.
With pertinent contemporary background themes of personal vanity, cut throat ambition and father and son conflict, the film is a challenge for anyone with a dream and an emphatic statement about following the heart. It’s also laced with slick style, dozens of memorable dialogue set pieces and will launch an exciting new cast with a big future in film.
