Thor Freudenthal signs on to direct ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’

Fox 2000 has signed Thor Freudenthal to direct the studio’s big screen version of Jeff Kinney's illustrated book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." The hazards of growing up before you're ready are uniquely revealed through words and drawings as Greg records them in his diary.

The film will be produced by Nina Jacobson and will be a live-action adaptation of Kinney’s tale of Greg Heffley – a kid with a talent for getting in trouble at school and home, according to The Hollywood Reporter.Kinney started his story as a Web comic that made its way into a novel. A new "Wimpy" book is scheduled to hit store shelves in January.Freudenthal directed "Hotel for Dogs" for Paramount and has signed to direct Warner Bros.' "Measle and the Wrathmonk."
