Hollywood continues to crank out the remakes with John Carpenter’s 1988 film “They Live” possibly getting the treatment at Universal and Strike Entertainment.
John Carpenter’s “They Live” finds new life at Universal.
Universal and Strike Entertainment are in negotiations to pick up the film rights to “They Live” from rights holder Les Mougins, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The remake is set to be produced by Strike's Marc Abraham and Eric Newman with Shep Gordon of Les Mougins and John Carpenter working as executive producers. No writer has been hired for the remake.
The original film (considered a cult classic) followed a construction worker (wrestler Roddy Piper) who finds a pair of sunglasses that let him see aliens. The aliens have worked their way into society and are controlling humanity through subliminal messages.
The movie was a typical Carpenter flick with lots of action sequences and classic lines – such as "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
