British comedian Russell Brand is in development with Warner Bros. on a remake of the 1981 classic comedy “Arthur” – which could also be a starring vehicle for the actor.
Brand could be stepping into Dudley Moore’s shoes for the title role, and has met with writers working on the screenplay, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The remake is set to be produced by MBST's Larry Brezner. The remake is being overseen by Warner Bros.’ Sarah Schechter.
The original followed a playboy with a drinking habit who is set to inherit a fortune if he marries the right woman. Unfortunately for his family, Arthur falls for a working-class woman. He soon has to choose between riches and love.
“Arthur” brought Moore an Oscar nomination for his performance and Steve Gordon a nomination for his work as writer/director. John Gielgud received a best supporting actor Oscar for his work as Arthur’s valet, and the film’s theme song, “The Best That You Can Do,” picked up an Oscar for original song.
