Ridley Scott takes a ride to ‘Monopoly’

Director Ridley Scott has officially signed to helm Universal Pictures’ adaptation of the hit Hasbro board game Monopoly. The film’s script will be written by Pamela Pettler. Box art from Monopoly Electronic Banking Edition.

Box art from Monopoly Electronic Banking Edition.Variety reports Scott (who heated up screens this summer with the Russell Crowe / Leonardo DiCaprio thriller “Body of Lies”) has been attached to the project for some time as a producer with Hasbro head Brian Goldner. Pettler wrote “Monster House,” “The Corpse Bride” and is currently working on “9” for producers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov.The screen version of "Monopoly" will be released through Universal Pictures – which has a first-look agreement with Hasbro for movies based on Hasbro toys. The studio is working on a horror film with Platinum Dunes based on Hasbro’s Ouija Board game and is in development on a movie based on the Battleship game.
