Steve Carell gives voice to ‘Despicable Me’

Steve Carell will lend his voice to “Despicable Me” – Illumination Entertainment’s family film set up through Universal Pictures. Steve Carell plans to steal the moon as Groo in “Despicable Me.”

It is scheduled to be released in 2010.For the film, Carell will voice the title character – a villain known as Groo who has a plan to steal the moon. He is encouraged by his evil mother (Andrews), but runs into a roadblock when three orphan girls are placed in his care.The film will reteam Carell with Illumination Entertainment’s Chris Meledandri. The two worked together on "Horton Hears a Who.""Despicable Me" came from an idea by Sergio Pablos and was written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. It will be produced by Meledandri, Janet Healy and John Cohen. Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin have signed to direct the film. The project will be fully financed by Universal.
