James Cameron's ‘Avatar’ goes for a 3-D Imax release

James Cameron’s upcoming “Avatar” just got a little bigger thanks to a deal between Imax Corp. and 20th Century Fox to release the film on Imax 3-D screens and standard 3-D theaters.

James Cameron’s upcoming “Avatar” gets bigger with Imax screen release. James Cameron at Oceana Celebrates 2006 Partners Award Gala - Arrivals.Variety reports the deal will allow the new Cameron flick to reach audiences in all theatrical formats. It is set to be released on Dec. 19th, 2009, and is produced through Cameron and Jon Landau's Lightstorm Entertainment.In Variety, Cameron endorsed the new Imax format and stated: "Our goal with 'Avatar' is to revolutionize live-action 3-D moviemaking, and I have no doubt that it will look and sound incredible in Imax 3-D."
