Japanese director Hideo Nakata ("The Ring Two," "Ringu" and "Dark Water") has signed to handle directing duties for the new psychological thriller "Chatroom."
Variety reports the film follows a group of teenagers who feed off each other’s destructive behavior. The film was written by Enda Walsh (adapting his own stage play), and will be sold by WestEnd Films.
Walsh picked up the Cannes Camera d'Or for 2001’s "Disco Pigs" and has finished writing Steve McQueen's "Hunger."
“Chatroom” is scheduled to be produced by Alison Owen, Paul Trijbits, and Laura Hastings-Smith. Film4's Katherine Butler is set to handle executive producing duties with Film4 developing and co-financing the project.
The film is scheduled to start shooting in the spring with locations in the U.K.
