Taylor Hackford looking to find ‘Love Ranch’ a studio

Director Taylor Hackford is set to start looking for a domestic distributor for his independently financed drama “Love Ranch” – which stars Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci as the owners of Nevada’s first legal brothel. Variety reports Hackford also served as a producer on the under-$25 million drama. The film was shot in New Mexico and survived the problems of its financier, Capitol Films.In the film, Mirren (who is Hackford’s wife) handled the role of the queen of a brothel and Pesci took the role of her husband. The story is loosely based on Joe and Sally Conforte – the owners of the Mustang Ranch. The ranch was the scene of the crime where prizefighter Oscar Bonavena was shot and killed after he was suspected of having an affair with madam Sally.Sergio Paris Mencheta will handle the role of the boxer in the film, and the reported love triangle is a big part of the script written by Mark Jacobson.In Daily Variety, Hackford stated: "I’ll take the film myself to studios, a track I followed with ‘Ray. Everyone thought that was a studio film, but I only showed it after I finished it. I got lucky because Ron Meyer loved it."
